SF₆ is a manmade molecule with excellent arc-quenching properties, making it ideally suited for electrical switchgear, one of its key applications.  SF₆-insulated switchgear is installed in every cllimate zone and is expected to be reliable for several decades. 

Safe switchgear operation requires SF₆ gas density monitoring with instruments of the highest quality level- featuring both temperature compensation and hermetically sealed cases.  This eliminates all temperature and ambient influences on the monitoring instrument so that "go"/"no go" decisions can be made on the spot or automatically via switch contacts.  WIKA has been a partner in the T&D industry for more than 30 years with an installed fleet of over 1,000,000 units worldwide.
